Torrential downpours of rain and hail – with some thunder – accompanied the storms, with more on the way, says Met Eireann.
It will be cold and blustery with sunny spells and occasional heavy showers in Donegal with more hail and thunder later.
Temperatures will drop close to freezing tonight and rain may turn to snow on higher ground, especially around Gaoth Dobhair, Fanad and Inishowen.
