Donagh Kelly’s Donegal Rally jinx might’ve continued on Sunday afternoon – but the Frosses man was keeping the spirits up.
Kelly set the quickest time on all of the opening ten stages of the event, but by Saturday evening Manus Kelly was breathing down his neck.
Manus took the lead for the first time on SS16, Atlantic Drive, on Sunday. The advantage changed hands again but on the second run of Atlantic Drive, the penultimate stage of the rally, Donagh’s Focus rolled and, although the car landed back on its wheels again, the event was over.
His navigator, Conor Foley, posted a clip of the driver strumming a guitar for a rendition of The Hills of Donegal on Twitter on Sunday evening.
Donagh has been the Irish Tarmac champion, but Donegal is the one rally that has continued to elude him.
