The Emergency Department of Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely busy today and staff have implemented Full Capacity Protocol.
LUH is the most overcrowded hospital in the country today, as 34 patients were recorded awaiting admission this morning.
Twenty one sick patients are waiting on trollies, while 13 wait in overflow wards, according to INMO figures.
The Full Capacity Protocol has been implemented as staff seek to identify patients who are appropriate for discharge.
Management at the hospital advised people who are attending the Emergency Department at Letterkenny University Hospital to expect delays.
“We would like to remind the public that we encourage them to attend the Emergency Department only in the case of real emergencies and they should contact their GP or GP Out-of-Hours service in the first instance.
“Letterkenny University Hospital apologises to all patients and their families for any distress caused as a result of these delays,” a spokesperson said.
