Drunk woman who drove wrong way up Letterkenny’s Main Street is fined and banned

November 7, 2017

A woman who drove up the wrong way of Letterkenny Main Street while drunk has been fined and banned from driving for six years.

Ann White was stopped by Gardai on November 2nd, 2016 while driving a red Mitsubishi Colt the wrong way up the town.

Letterkenny District Court heard that when interviewed by Gardai she was slurring her speech and was confused.

A blood sample later showed she had a reading of 239 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 milligrammes of blood – making her more than four times over the legal drink driving limit.

Ms White, aged 56, of Bridge Street, Strabane, was also stopped by Gardai on March 2nd, 2017, at Drumbeg, Raphoe.

Gardai were responding to a single vehicle accident after a motorist struck a roadsign and then collided with a ditch.

Gardai found Ms White at the roadside and asked her if she needed hospital treatment.

But she replied “Fuck off would you? I’m alright. I only had a couple of drinks and I don’t need to go to hospital.”

Solicitor Patsy Gallagher said his client was on disability allowance and only started drinking late in life.

He said she obviously had major issues with alcohol and prescription drugs.

He said she had little recollection of either event and will probably never drive again.

On the first incident of drunk driving at Main Street, Letterkenny, Judge Paul Kelly fined the woman €100 and banned her from driving for two years.

In relation to the second charge, he fined Ms White a further €150 and banned her from driving for a further four years.
