Confirmation from Irish Water of mains replacement works in the West Donegal Gaeltacht region has been welcomed as ‘encouraging news’.
The townlands of Mín na Leice, Derrynamansher and Rann na Feirste have experienced regular water mains bursts in recent years, according to local councillor Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easpuig.
In correspondence to the councillor, Irish Water confirmed that approximately 3km of water mains is due for replacement from Meenaleck to Ranafast in the coming months. This is part of a larger 45km countywide mains replacement contract.
A Contractor has just been appointed and is due to commence in the next few weeks and a programme of works is expected in the coming weeks.
Cllr Mac Giolla Easpuig said: “This certainly is encouraging news for Mín na Leice, Derrynamansher agus Rann na Feirste. I have been working on this this last number of years along with others to improve our water infrastructure to Rann na Feirste, Derrynamansher agus Mín na Leice and other areas as well.
“There has been hundreds upon hundreds of water bursts this number of years within this area at approximately €12-€1500 per-fix.”
