More than 500 people have applied for up to 35 jobs at a toy store in Co Donegal.

Smyths Toy Store is due to open on November 5th in Letterkenny in time for the Christmas rush as exclusively revealed in Donegaldaily.com recently.

Interviews for jobs at the store, which is to be located at the Letterkenny Retail Park, are taking place over the next two days.

Spokesman for Smyths, Rob McGuckin, said they have been inundated with job applications.

“There will be between 30 and 35 full and part-time jobs at the store. This will be the 22nd store in the country.

“We have been inundated with job applications, around 500, and we are interviewing people in the coming days.

“We will be open well in advance of Christmas and we are looking forward to this store being a very busy one,” he said.

The well-known toy store chain already has another branch across the border in Derry which is hugely popular with Donegal shoppers.

The Mayor of Letterkenny, Cllr Gerry McMonagle said the arrival of the store is a huge endorsement for Letterkenny.

“This is very welcome news at a time when you hear so many jobs being lost.

“Smyths are a very well-known and respected brand and we are talking about up to 35 jobs which is a great boost for the town and for Donegal,” he said.
