The funeral of tragic Donegal teenager Caolan Page will take place in Derry today.

The 19-year-old St Columb’s College student will be laid to rest at the City Cemetery following Requiem Mass at Culmore Parish Church in Thornhill at 11am.

Local priest Fr Michael McCaughey said the family had been left devastated by their loss but were taking heart from the support they have received.

He said: “I have been with the family and they are very distressed. They are going through a lot of pain and heartbreak.

“Caolan was a fine young fellow in the prime of life. He was loved by his family and was doing very well at St Columb’s College.

“The family have cherished the support they have received from both the community here, and in Killea and at the school.”

Upwards of 6,000 people have expressed their condolences to the family through a special Facebook page.

Fr McCaughey added: “The pain and grief has touched so many people and there is a great sense of loss among people who loved Caolan.

“People are lost for words.”

Last night the PSNI confirmed that Caolan’s death was a tragic accident.

He was found unconscious near Derry’s Walls at 2am on Saturday and died the next day.
