Gardai are hunting a gang who broke into a number of houses in Letterkenny at the weekend.

The gang struck a number of times in the Glencar area of the town.

During one attack they attempted to steal two cars belonging to the same family in the College Farm area.

They managed to reverse one of the cars out of a driveway but crashed it into a wall.

The gang then moved onto another house where they caused a serious amount of damage.

As well as breaking a number of windows, the vandals also let off a fire extinguisher in the unoccupied house.

Another house was broken into and a number of items were taken.

A Garda spokesman confirmed they were investigating a number of incidents.

“We are investigating a number of incidents of criminal damage and attempted robbery.

“We have interviewed a number of people and our investigations are ongoing.

“We would ask anybody who may have witnessed anybody acting suspiciously to contact us in confidence,” he said.
