A WEST Donegal company given millions of euro in taxpayers money is reportedly planning to axe more jobs – just months after promising to create new positions.
Largo Foods crisp factory in Gaoth Dobhair had admitted cutting 52 positions in February despite initially denying it to donegaldaily.com.
It insisted however the 52 part-time posts would be replaced by 26 full-time jobs, saying that this was a result of a deal with workers.
Now a notice at the company says 70 jobs will go over the next two months.
It’s not clear if this is on top of the 52 part-time positions – or 70 additional job losses.
Largo has been poor at communicating with the media and relies on Udaras civil servants in Galway to handle its media relations for its plant in Gaoth Dobhair.
So far they have yet to issue a statement but managing director Ray Coyle has admitted there will be redundancies.
They have never clarified all its job creation announcements over the past year.
