DONEGAL JOINT PERSON OF YEAR HUGH GREEN PASSES AWAY

Donegal’s current joint Person of the Year Hugh Green has passed away at his home in New Zealand overnight.

Mr Green, a native of Raphoe, became a huge business success since leaving his native Donegal.

He became one of New Zealand’s biggest building contractors and owned huge portions of land.

Despite becoming a huge success, he never forgot his roots and famously returned to Donegal almost every summer.

He also gave kindly to many charitable organisations and recently donated €200,000 to Letterkenny General Hospital for which a fund has been set up in his name.

He was also known for his sense of humour.

The Sunday Independent one time valued his wealth at €80 million and he called them up to complain telling them he was worth much more than that.
