DONEGAL is amongst the worst counties in Ireland for uninsured motorists, a newspaper report claims today.
John Casey, The Motor Insurers Bureau of Ireland Chief Executive, told Foinse today that the majority of the cases occurred in Dublin, Cork and Limerick cities.
“Border counties such as Donegal and Louth are also problem areas,” he tells today’s edition of the Irish language newspaper Foinse, inside the Irish Independent.
The report says law-abiding motorists are picking up a shocking €60m annual bill for illegal drivers,.
The costs relate to the compensation paid to victims of crashes caused by illegal drivers; €40m for uninsured drivers and a further €18m for hit and run motorists.
Although the tab is picked up by the motor insurance industry, it’s ultimately law-abiding drivers who foot the bill.
