ANTI-austerity campaigners were left red-faced – after staging a protest for a Minister who had never planned to be there.

Donegal Action Against Austerity picketed the Mount Errigal hotel on Friday.

A meeting of the quango the Local Authority Members Association was taking place there.

The DAAA later claimed to have Minister Phil Hogan “on the run” after he didn’t turn up at the function.

But he had NEVER planned to be there.

“He was at an engagement in Wexford all afternoon followed by aother engagement in Dublin,” said a spokesman for the Environment Minister.

“We were a bit mystified when we heard of this protest in Co Donegal because the Minister was never pencilled in to be there. It’s a strange one.”
