GARDAI are investigating a possible hit and run incident this morning in which a man died.

Gardai at Ballyshannon are appealing for information following the discovery of a body of a male at Parkhill, Ballyshannon, today.

A Garda spokesman said that at approximately 0040 hours the body of a male aged in his 40s was discovered on the carriageway of the N15 at Parkhill approximately 1 mile from Ballyshannon town.

“A preliminary examination carried out at the scene suggests the man was struck by a passing motorist,” said the spokesman.

His body remains at the scene which has been preserved pending a full technical and forensic examination.

Forensic collision investigators will attend the scene later this morning and the Coroner has been notified.

The road is closed to traffic and diversions are in place.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses and in particular to anyone who travelled on this stretch of road between midnight and 0040 hours to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyshannon Garda Station 071-9858530, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
