Letterkenny General Hospital is in a near state of complete lock-down following a spread of the winter vomiting bug.
All wards are shut to the public apart from fathers and parents visiting the maternity unit.
The HSE has urged people across Donegal to look after their health and stick to visiting restrictions and hygiene guidelines when visiting vulnerable patients in nursing homes, hospitals and health services.
It was expected that there may be an outbreak of the Norovirus in coming weeks.
The authority is now urging friends and relatives to co-operate with hospitals and nursing homes when visiting and help to contain the virus to the best of their ability.
Anybody suffering from symptoms of the bug has been urged no to visit hospitals, nursing homes, schools and crèches to ensure that the most vulnerable in society are not affected by the virus.
There is no known treatment for norovirus, besides getting lots of rest and drinking clear fluids.
People are advised to drink fluids an stay indoors for at least 48 hours.
People are advised to visit their GP, so anybody with any concerns have been urged to call their GP to reduce the risk of exposing other patients.
