Jim Doherty the Newtowncunningham Clay Pigeon Shooter is to receive the ‘International Achievement’ award at next Friday night’s Donegal Sports Star function in the Mount Errigal Hotel (January 25th).Jim Doherty Thurs 17th

And his 2012 successes have again put him in the frame to retain the county’s ‘Overall Sports Star Award’, which he won last January for his achievements in the previous year

While Doherty may not have attained the same level of success that earned him the ‘Overall Award’ for 2011 he still represented Ireland on three different teams at the World, European and Home International competitions in Wales last July.

He ended Doherty as runner-up in the Home International category in an Irish team that he has been a member of every year since 1997.

Despite all his success on the international stage in recent years he only won his first national title in March at Garbally in Tyrone, which clearly demonstrates the high standard of the sport in this country.

Tickets for the Donegal Sports Star Awards on next Friday night, January 25th can now be booked by contacting the Mount Errigal Hotel on 9122700. Tickets are priced at 25 euro for adults and 15 euro for primary school pupils.
