Ireland North West MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher has congratulated Emily O’Reilly on being elected as European Ombudsman by a majority of the European Parliament.
Mr. Gallagher stated “I wish to congratulate Emily on being elected to the role of European Ombudsman. I have no doubt that she will excel in her new position which is to hold the institutions of the EU to account.
“She will be able to draw on her vast experience as the Irish Ombudsman and I am confident that she will conduct her duties in an independent and impartial manner. In my opinion, key to her successful election was her outstanding performance at hearings with the various political groups and the Committee on Petitions which convinced many MEPs to support her candidature.”
