Newton fought back hard with two points of their own but Mulligan replied to leave it 3 each. Mac Cumhaills got their goal when Danny Mc Geehan followed up an attack and when the ball came rolling back of the keeper he smashed it into a packed net (HT 1.03-0.03)

The decisive period in the game arrived with ten mins to go, a high ball into Newton goal mouth broke to Aaron Kelly who drove the ball into the net on the turn.
