GAA NEWS: GLENSWILLY RESERVES ENJOY GOOD LEAGUE WIN OVER DUNGLOE

Our senior reserve team had a busy weekend, beginning on Friday evening past with a league fixture away to Dungloe.Glenswilly GAA Club

The Glen boys started well and maintained a solid performance throughout. Leading from start to finish, they ended the evening with a 1-14 to 1-07 victory in a very entertaining game.

On Sunday both reserve and senior teams travelled to Falcarragh to play Cloughaneely.

A victory for the reserves would have given them the title of winners of the Div.2 reserve league. However, playing against a strong wind in the first half the Glen went in trailing 0-7 to 1-01 at half time. In the second half Glenswilly applied much pressure on the home side. The Glen Boys however were not finding the target from free kicks awarded to them and while they did bring the game level at 1-05 to 0-08 with minutes remaining, a penalty awarded to Cloughaneely, which was converted, gave the home side a victory on a final score of 1-08 to 1-05.

The senior team played with the wind to their backs in the first half and went in leading 1-07 to 0-02 at half time in their game. Ruari Crawford getting the goal while Michael Murphy, Neil Gallagher, Colin Kelly, Gary”copper”McFadden and Darren McGinley all contributing points. The final score being 1-13 to 1-04. An interesting fact is the Glen men took 1-11 from play while Cloughaneely scores came from three 45’S ,1 point from play and 1 from a free. A very disciplined and solid performance for the Glen boys. With no fixtures this coming week, the next outing for the seniors will be McCumhaill park on Sunday 15th for a half 2 throw in against Kilcar in the Championship, one that we are all looking forward too.

In the Div.5 league Glenswilly played St Eunans. The Letterkenny boys were successful in this one, winning by 1-13 to the Glens 1-07.

Our U-13 team had a game with Convoy on Sunday morning. The Convoy lads were the victors in this game, but better luck next time boys.

The next club monthly meeting will be on Monday 9th of September in the club house.

The winning Lotto numbers this week are 8,9,14 and 20. Match 3 winner is Shane McDevitt. Next week the jackpot is 3080euro and sellers are Manus and Bernie Kelly
