Click on the video above, to witness the desperate attempt by rescuers, to save the lives of a group of stricken Pilot Whales that become stranded on Ballyness Beach in Falcarragh yesterday morning.

The whole community sustained a prolonged and collective effort all day to help return the whales to the sea.

Five sadly died on the beach, but thanks to the community spirit and effort by locals they managed to return eight of the whales back out to sea.

However, despite  rescuers successfully returning the whales back out to sea TWICE, the whales became beached again.

Marine experts believe the whales are suffering from an illness and sadly many of the thirteen whales originally stranded have now sadly died having become beached again.
