Thursday Specials

As Murvagh was hosting the very prestigious Ulster Seniors Championship last Thursday for one week only we relocated our competition to Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club. For the 32 players that travelled, it was a very enjoyable day and a welcome change to play a bit of parkland golf, although judging by the scores and the comments some may have had the odd argument with the tree’s during the round.

The winner was Hugh ‘F’ Cassidy with 30pts, Jimmy Melly claimed 2nd place with 28pts and Barry Kennedy was 3rd with 26pts on a break of tie. Raymond Nolan was the best of the past players that travelled with 25pts on a break of tie.

With only 2 counting events remaining the race for player of the year is once again very keenly contested, Frank O’Donnell continues to lead the way on 256pts, Martin Travers is the closest challenger in 2nd with 253pts and Conor McNulty is a further 2 shots back in 3rd with 251pts.

Best of luck to all the contenders.

We are also reaching the business end of the Phoenix cup, in what could be a good omen for another famous Jimmy, 2012 winner Jimmy Melly is winning matches again and will do battle with our treasurer Brian Boyle for a place in the final. In the other side of the draw Liam Farren will take on Matt Gallagher for a spot in the final. Semi-Final Matches must be played by 3rd September, Best of luck to all.

This Year’s weekend away will be held on the 11th\12th October at Slieve Russell Golf Club. Sheet is on the notice board please add your name if you are interested in travelling, the first 30 players with their name on the sheet and the €50 deposit paid will travel.
