GOLF NEWS: JOHN MCCLAFFERTY IN BRILLIANT FORM AT OTWAY

GOLF LOGOOtway Golf News

Club President Dessie Crerand hosted a very enjoyable day on Sunday 31st August, when members battled it out for his coveted big prize of the day.

As it wasn’t the only big prize battled for that day, the other one in Croke Park, most members started a bit earlier than their normal starting time so as not to miss the big match!

Deserved winner John McClafferty showed how much his game has come on in recent times, by carding a magnificent 43 pts, just enough to hold off Gallagher brothers Brendan and Gerry to 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

True to form Damian Gallagher took the gross and longest drive, with the nines going to Dan Canning and Kieran Murray, and Arthur Morrison getting nearest the pin.

Orla Gallagher won the ladies section and Anne Cullen took second, with the visitors prize going to Kathleen McCormick.

All participants were treated to a fine array of food after their efforts, and the usual good craic agus ceol later that night.

The previous day in the club matchplay final, Paddy Lynch held off the brave fighting spirit of San Anderson to take the title for 2014.

This coming Sunday 14th, members are asked to come down to the course at around 10am to help out with a little light work around the greens, and of course bring the clubs as there will surely be a few holes played afterwards.
