GOLF NEWS: DAMIEN MCDERMOTT IS THE ‘MURVAGH MASTER’ FOR 2014

Men’s Competitions

Sunday 5th of October

Damien McDermott is the “ Murvagh Master” for 2014. His winning score of 71 not only won the Sunday competition but also secured the coveted “Murvagh Master” (played for by winners of singles competitions during the year) title.

On a day when the stiff breeze made scoring difficult Declan Gallagher took 2nd place by virtue of a break of tie from Joe Gillespie and Sean Mulroe. Darren McDaid’s 78 was the best Gross.

Results:

2. Declan Gallagher(17) 73 (bot)

3. Joe Gillespie (13) 73 (bot)

4. Sean Mulroe (9) 73

Friday Open – 3rd October.

The Friday Open competitions have recommenced and will run every Friday until the 19th of December. This first competition was dominated by visiting Mourne members with Robbie Donovan keeping the flag flying for the home club.

Results:

1. Mark Guinness (Mourne) (16) 41pts,

2. Robbie Donovan, (17) 40pts,

3. Peter Murray (Mourne) (4) 37pts,

Gross Kevin Murray (Mourne) (3) 26pts

Ladies’ Competitions

28th /30th September Sponsor – Rosewoods -18holes stableford

Noelle Ward emulated the Ryder Cup team last week in winning both the 18 hole (40pts) & 9 hole competition by 3 pts from her nearest rival Ann McGlynnn (37pts).

Rosemary Carr was 1pt behind with 36pts and Helen O’Shea was 4th on 35pts. Margaret Trimble recorded 22pts for front 9 and Joan Thomas had 20pts for back 9.
