A Donegal man has helped guide not one, but two Middle Eastern GAA teams to success at a tournament in Al Ain earlier today.
Paddy Gillespie, who is working in Sharjah as a school teacher – is a former player with Naomh Muire GAA club.
However, he may have found his vocation in coaching as he incredibly steered Sharjah Gaels Junior and Intermediate sides to glory.
Gillespie managed both sides, and he had one Donegal man to thank for ensuring his side’s Junior success.
Former Ardara GAA player, Keelan Gallagher produced a stunning last minute save to ensure Sharjah Gaels won the Junior title.
In the Intermediate section – Gillespie’s former Naomh Muire team mate Ciaran McCafferty had a superb tournament – and was the stand-out performer for Sharjah Gaels to make it a dream double for Gillespie.
In the Senior section – Donegal star Paul Durcan kicked four points from frees – but his side eventually lost out in the final.
GAA tournaments are held regularly in the Middle East, and the next one will take place in Dubai on 11th of March.
Gillespie will be hoping his Junior and Intermediate sides can retain their titles in Dubai in March.
Well done to all the Donegal contingent involved.
