Knockalla Cup – Bonagee Utd 0 Fanad Utd 0 (Bonagee won 3-2 on pens)

Bonagee made it into the hat for the next round, but only just, after a spirited display by a Fanad team who conceded four against the same opposition last week.

With player-manager Arthur Lynch and Seimi Friel marshalling their defence well, Bonagee were finding it very difficult in putting keeper Paddy Kelly under any pressure.

The first of few opportunities for the home side came in the 17th minute when Kevin Barr, who was busy throughout the game, shot straight at Kelly following a knockdown from Aidan McLaughlin.

Fanad had a couple of chances of their own before half time, the most notable an effort from Davitt Walsh that went narrowly over.

The second half was evenly matched and again, opportunities were scarce. Fanad almost broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when a Declan McGarvey effort struck the outside of the post from distance.

The game went into extra-time and the thirty minutes produced no goals, so it meant the dreaded penalty shootout.

The home side emerged victorious from this three goals to two, with Appiah & McGinley missing for Bonagee and Lynch, McGarvey and Walsh unlucky for the visitors. Ref Marty McGarrigle.
