Dunfanaghy Golf Club Notes:

With some fine weather over the last week, the course awoke from it’s winter slumber with a great turnout of golfers. The Wednesday Competition was won by Dan Mulhern with an excellent 40 points.

The Saturday 4BBB was won by Mark McCarter and Michael Kelly followed closed by Pat Bonnar and Michael Dunne.

The scoring on Sunday was phenomenal with Paul Kelly losing out on a break of tie to Eamonn McGrath, both players having a fantastic score of 63.

Congratulations to our Gaeltacht League Team who beat Gweedore 7 ½ to 1 ½. Well done to all the lads and to Ger Dalton, the team captain. The Gaeltacht Final is in Dunfanaghy on the 9th of April. All support is most welcome.

Those who played over the last week will have noticed the terrific work which has been done on the course drainage. The course is now bone dry and, for this, great credit must go to Fergus Mullen, Paul McGinley and his greenkeeping staff and to the mastermind of the works, Aidan Fox.

As many of you will have seen, the refurbishment works in the bar are well under way and will be finished shortly. The television has also been moved to the bottom right hand corner which makes the bar much more conducive to watching rugby, soccer, golf and other sports events. Please come and enjoy the new surroundings over the coming weeks.

Our new chef, Paddy McLaughlin, has also come in for some well deserved praise since his recent arrival at the Club. He is producing some fantastic food and will be on duty every weekend from now until the beginning of Easter. Thereafter food will be available more extensively throughout the week.

Junior Golf:

A large group of Juveniles turned out on a lovely Saturday morning for the first scramble of the year. It was an extremely close affair, with some nerves on display at the last hole. There were some terrific golf shots played, the best of which was from Michael Dolan.  Under the most extreme pressure Michael played a wedge shot from heavy rough to the left of eighteen over the hedge and the bunkers to end some 15 feet from the hole. However the putt was  missed which handed victory to the team of Padraig Doherty, Max Roarty, Cormac Hall and the Team Captain on the day Jack Druce. The boys really enjoyed this competition and no doubt it will be repeated again.

Function Room for Private Parties:

We have hosted a number of private functions in the clubhouse recently and these have proved to be a great success. If you, or someone you know, is organising a private function please be aware that the clubhouse is available free of charge, with exclusive use for the occasion. So far, the feedback that we have been getting is that the golf club is the ideal venue for parties of up to one hundred people. Please make contact with Sarah if you are interested in holding a function at the clubhouse (074 91 36335)
