Dunfanaghy Golf Club Notes:

Gaeltacht League Final.

Another busy weekend at Dunfanaghy GC started with the final of the Gaeltacht league on Saturday morning. The Rosapenna team started the day with a slender lead and managed to maintain that lead after a tough battle with Gweedore and Dunfanaghy GC. Well done to the Rosapenna lads. Congratulations also to Gerald Dalton who won the individual prize, a very prestigious achievement indeed.

The golf was followed by a presentation in the clubhouse where there was a great atmosphere. Our Captain Denis Martin commended all the teams on their efforts throughout the winter before presenting the prizes.

While the sun shone brightly on Sunday, scoring was very difficult due to a very cold easterly breeze. Well done to Brian Wallace who took first place with 38 points.

Rose Gavigan and Sean Duffy jnr competed during the week in the qualifier for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Pro Am in Rockmount. In very tough conditions, they scored well but missed out narrowly on qualification for the next stage.

The committee would also like to express their thanks and gratitude to all those who helped out on “Divot Day” over the Easter Holidays. There was a great turnout and the work was completed within a couple of hours. The course will benefit greatly from this in the weeks ahead.

Junior Golf:

12 players turned up for the junior competition on Saturday morning.

The cadets had a very competitive few holes with Sean Mc Bride taking the honours. This was Sean’s first win and was a well deserved reward for all his hard work. Keep up the practice Sean.

In the juveniles section we had an extremely close competition but in the end it was Andy Ward who held out for a very impressive win. Andy is one of our most dedicated and consistent players. He always plays with a terrific attitude and is a fine example to the younger boys who have joined our cadets section. Well done again Andy. Congratulations also to Lucas Wood who won shot of the day with a great sand save on the 15th.

In the senior boys Conor Hanna won first prize with James Sweeney second and Oisin Cannon third.

So far, the feedback that we have been getting is that the golf club is the ideal venue for parties of up to one hundred people. Please make contact with Sarah if you are interested in holding a function at the clubhouse (074 91 36335)
