Daniel O’Donnell and wife Majella have claimed that their close friend Cliff Richard was “mentally abused” after being accused of sex abuse allegations.

The Donegal star appeared on ITV’s Lorraine and spoke about Sir Cliff’s horrific ordeal.

The 54 year old singer said he was delighted that the Living Doll singer had been cleared of the historic abuse allegations.

“Yes, we are absolutely delighted that the ordeal is over for Cliff but it’s going to be with Cliff for the rest of his life.

“I know he is a strong man and will go forward in the best way that he can.”

Majella, 56, added: “He was bewildered and the fact that he could do nothing about it. It amounts to mental abuse. He has been mentally abused.”

And Daniel said that his friend should follow up on the claims to clear his name once and for all.

Daniel said that Sir Cliff found himself at a loss over the allegations.

“He’s done so much for so many throughout his career, we’ve only seen the public things but he has done things in private.

“That was the one thing that he couldn’t understand – why it was happening.”
