Letterkenny Athletic Club notes
Club athletes acknowledged the planned rest and respite of club Statsman Hugh Gallagher allowing him a well deserved break this week from the weekly roundup by being selective in their exploits.

John Hughes ran the Russel Gaelic Union 10K in Downpatrick in 41.38 during the week on a flying visit to his native homeland.

Ivan Toner and Jane McGinley took the titles in the Tommy McBride 5k Cranford on Saturday evening.

The Danny McDaid 15K sponsored by the Station House Hotel saw record numbers with 205 finishers in decent running conditions. Runners were inadvertently directed to the close by Donegal half marathon turn adding on an extra 225m approx. The club apologise for the inconvenience caused. Thanks to all the volunteers who selflessly helped out today to provide an otherwise smooth run event.

Kieran Crawford led the way home in 10th place in 56:35.9 for the men.

Other results included;
Martin Dooley 57:58,4
Liam Doherty 59:24,1
Kieran Coyle 62:17,8
Ciaran O’Donnell 63:04,9
Padraig Friel 63:44,1
Colly O’Donnell 64:39,1
Pol Mac Giolla Bhride 65:19,8
Aidan Mc Kenna 65:46,1
Barry Mackey 65:57,1
Kevin Kiely 66:03,1
Stephen Shiels 68:47,8
Paul Lee 69:45,2
Noel Lynch, 72:59,9
Adrian Callaghan 74:20,3
Naoise Enright 76:36,7
Ciaran Liddy 79:44,5

For many of the above the 15k was step up in distance and results of extra preparation were evident. Kevin Kiely provided the Men with premier podium finish in 1st O60

Marian Kerr lead the women home in 73:00,4 picking up 2nd O40 prize for her efforts. Margaret Shiels also had a rostrum position with 3rd in O45s in 74:25,2. Irene McFadden 74:25,8, Patricia Mc Kenna 75:51,1 and Eithne Cox 83:28,6 all sporting good runs.

The Donegal Marathon and Half Marathon were very much on athlete’s minds today and will be the next big date on the calendar for many. Not so for the bride and groom to be Jane McGinley and Ivan toner’s pending nuptials will take pride of place for many this coming week. The club wishes them both a lovely day and much happiness in the future.
