An Aer Lingus Regional plane landing at Donegal Airport last night came off the runway.
The plane was attempting to land at the Carrickfin site in West Donegal in last night’s storm during heavy winds and lightning when the incident happened.
The plane landed but it is understood it went off the runway and partially went into the adjoining grass area.
None of the 17 passengers on board suffered any injuries.
A spokesman for Stobart Air, which operates the Are Lingus Regional flight, confirmed to Donegal Daily that the plane drifted off the runway.
“We can confirm that flight EI3408 from Dublin to Donegal experienced a minor issue upon landing on Wednesday evening. Due to strong cross wind gusts, the aircraft momentarily drifted from the runway before being immediately redirected back onto the paved surface and making its way as normal to its parking position. All 17 passengers disembarked the aircraft safely.”
An eye witness, a local man familiar with the area, told Donegal Daily that he watched in shock as the plane wobbled severely.
The plane was due to return to Dublin this morning but is still at the location.
A number of airport personnel are at the scene conducting observations at the location.
