Letterkenny man John Watson has been crowned the European Deadlift Champion in the 90kg Master 2 category after winning gold in Amsterdam this weekend.
John, who is the proprietor of Watson Hire, has been lifting for two years and has been pushing himself with help from personal trainer Emmet Rushe.
The deadlift sees athletes lift a loaded barbell to their waist, and then lowering it back to the ground.
Rushe commented: “Fantastic achievement! We didn’t get what we wanted but we did enough to get the win.”
The former Letterkenny Chamber President, who can deadlift weights of over 30 stone, previously won silver in July in the Irish Drug-Free Powerlifting Association’s Full Power competition before taking the gold in the IDFPA’s Deadlift Championships in Cork last month.
