Golf News: Adrian does the double at Barnhill

ADRIAN DOES THE DOUBLE!

Congratulations to cat 4 member Adrian Daly [26] who, having returned the winning score of 36pts on Wednesday 28th Open at Barnhill, followed on with an even better return of 40pts to win the Saturday 1st October Open and his ‘double’. Having recorded 21pts over the outward nine on both days, Saturday’s front nine included a ‘blank’ at 4th but an assured 19pts on back nine gave him a one point winning margin over John Doran [5], runner-up with 39pts. With bogeys at 4th and 13th, John was just twoover for fifteen holes, birdies par three 16th but again, another bogey at 17th left him just short of a winning score with 74 gross. In third place was John Mc Glynn [18] with 37pts while Eamon Mc Glinchey [6] picked up the gross prize with 31pts gross.

Sunday 2nd Confined competition saw two of the most hard-working and improved members of the club vying for top spot and it was Minor League team stalwart Mark Cohen [19] who took the honour by virtue of B.O.T. from Anthony Delap [16]. Taking the turn at one over ‘2’s’, 19pts, back-to-back double bogeys at 14th and 15th almost had Mark lose out but a ‘fighting’ birdie at par three 16th gave him 20pts on inward nine and the win. Anthony’s double bogey at Hall Door [1st] was somewhat eliminated with a birdie at 8th for exactly the same ‘nines’ score as Mark but no doubt that birdie at 16th gave Mark the edge on the countback.

It was great to notice that there were over fifty [50] cat 4 members taking part in last week’s competitions.

A Letterkenny Golf Club team, under the captaincy of P.J. Sweeney and known as ‘FUREY’S FUTTERS’, will take part in a challenge match v. Castle Dargan G.C. on Saturday 15th October, tee-off @ 12.30pm with a ‘meet & greet’ arranged for approx. 11.45am.

Areminder that the social club ‘card’ season has resumed on Wednesday nights at 8pm, everyone welcome. Don’t forget the Night at the Races taking place on Friday, 28th October.
