Irish Water have confirmed that the replacement of 1.1km of problematic water mains at Cloontagh, Clonmany has finally been approved.

Fianna Fáil TD for Donegal Charlie McConalogue has welcomed this news and stressed the importance of the works being completed on time.

“This has been an ongoing problem in the area for some time and has been the source of much frustration among local residents and businesses. I’m pleased that Irish Water has finally recognised the issue and is putting plans in place to rectify it”, said Deputy McConalogue.

“The next step in the process is to undertake detailed design of the new pipe work, put it to tender, and procure a contractor to carry out the construction works. Irish Water has stated that the estimated timeframe is to get to construction started by June next year.

“While I welcome the news that this problem is now going to resolved, it is important that there are no delays in the design and procurement process given that construction is not due to start for at least another 6 months,” concluded Deputy McConalogue.
