Letterkenny Golf Club: Nothing to ‘hamper’ Mark Howard at Barnhill!

Winning the Christmas dinner turkey is one thing but taking home the full week’s goodies is quite another and that’s exactly what Mark Howard [14] did on Sunday last following his 42pt return from his Saturday round.

With the club’s Christmas Hamper being won by the best individual score over two days, Saturday and Sunday, Mark’s outward nine score of 23pts, one [1] over at the turn, had him stretching the field behind and, even though his birdie at 14th [Stackyard] was preceded by a ‘blank’ at Sheep Hill [12th] , his 19pts on inward nine was enough to ensure his palate would be well treated this year.

In runner-up spot with 38pts, also achieved on Saturday, was incoming Captain Colin Morrow [22] whose back-to-back ‘blanks’ at Swilly [3rd] and Sliabh Sneacht [4th] left him in ponderous mood for back nine but a 23pt return had him relegate Brian Carney [24] to third place by virtue of B.O.T. with Brian’s 17pts on his inward nine not matching his creditable 21pts from first nine.

In 4th place, again on B.O.T., was single figure handicapper Shane Scanlan [7] whilst gross prize was won by the ever-present Kieran Sweeney [6] with 31pts. gross.

The best ‘day’ winners were M.P.O’Donnell [14] for Saturday with 37pts and Kevin Rafferty [7] for Sunday, also with 37pts.

Following the success of last weekend’s competition which yielded an entry of almost one hundred and twenty, competitions has decided to run another ‘Christmas Hamper’ under the same guise as the former.

Therefore, the competition will be played over Saturday and Sunday, 10th & 11th December with the best individual score from either day declared the winner.

The dates for the club’s AGM’s are as follows: Mens Club AGM on Monday, December 12; Parent Club AGM on Tuesday, December 13. All male mamebers are entitled to and are asked to attend both AGMs. Lady members are also asked to attend the parent club AGM.

Congratulations to Letterkenny Golf Club resident PGA Professional Seamus McMonagle on the opening of his new indoor teaching studio.

Now fully up and running at Letterkenny GC, the spacious studio includes a tour standard indoor ‘putting green’ and new SkyTrack Golf Simulator which gives all clients in-depth information about their club-face angle, swing path, swing plane, angle of attack & other vital data.

Book individual or group sessions direct with Seamus today and improve your game, whatever the Donegal weather!

Congratulations to Cat 4 convenor and musician extraordinaire Gerry O’ Sullivan on his hole-in-one recorded on Saturday last at his home course of Barnhill.

Gerry’s ‘ace’ was achieved at the par three 13th, the aptly named Hunters Home with what is rumoured to have been his trusty driver. When asked to describe the swing Gerry answered ‘In the mitt and up the tree.”

Club members, family, visitors, friends associates and members of the general public are remindedthat the golf club shop pre-Christmas sale takes place this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, for two days only. All stock is reduced by at least 20 per cent [excluding golf balls] So come out and purchase that perfect Christmas gift for him or her!
