With the weather still behaving there was plenty of golf played over the weekend in Ballyliffin.
The Friday Open was won by Brendan Conneely [15] with 37pts. Brendan likes to take a prize back whenever he visits us. In 2nd place was Mat Concannon [9] with 36pts.
The Saturday Open on Glashedy was won by a visitor Vincent O’Rourke [13] with 38pts. The tougher back 9 proved no problem to him, he gathered 24pts there just to make sure. In 2nd place was a man who has had to build another room onto his house to hold prizes, Eamon O’Donnell [16] with 37pts. If he just could just win a match on a Sunday he would swap most of his prizes.
Another of the Concannan clan Tony Concannon [19] took 3rd spot with 36pts. Francis Dillo n[6] got in there again to take 4th with 36pts also. The Saturday Gross is turning into the Ernie Heywood [0] show with him taking the prize again with 33 gross pts.
The Sunday Confined on the Old course had a strange look at the top of the prizes.
It looks like Liam Doherty[w][7] was so relieved to be finished with the Captain’s job that he took top spot with 40pts. A level par back 9 saw to that. It looks like Bryan Northey [5] was so excited at taking over as Captain that he took 2nd with 38pts.
J J Lafferty [18] slipped in again to take 3rd with 37pts. A former old Rasheney striker Liam Collins [21] took 4th also with 37pts on the break of a tie. The Gross went to 7 handicapper Noel Quigley with 29 gross pts. I’m told there was a few tears shed in that fourball again this week.
The Wednesday Society had their end of year Christmas party and competition last week. On a day that was so windy we couldn’t even locate the winner to give him his prize Philip Doherty with 32pts. We have found him since hanging on by his fingernails to Doagh Castle. In 2nd place was a man who was born and bred without a tree for shelter Patsy Toland with 31pts. In 3rd place was that man again Eamon O’Donnell with 29pts. Martin Boyle had it so well organised that there was a prize for everybody, if you managed to get the clubs out of the boot you got a prize. Well done Martin.
After the AGM on Friday night Just want to wish all the best to new Captain Bryan Northey and new President John McEleney for the coming year. Believe it or not we are indebted to a frog for a successful and prompt meeting. Happy Golfing.
