Well-known Donegal writer nominated as ‘Press Officer of The Year’

The Tirconaill Tribune’s Declan Kerr, who is also the Finn Harps Media Officer, will be one of the nominees at the Soccer Writers Association of Ireland’ annual awards on this Friday night at the Conrad Hotel in Dublin.

Declan is one of the three nominees in the ‘Press Officer of the Year’ category. He only took the up position with Finn Harps in July in the middle of the Premier Division season.

The Irish Soccer Writers have a judging panel that decide the nominees based on the quality of press material coming from the 20 League of Ireland clubs.

“I never expected to be nominated especially as only took it on in July. But there are others involved with Finn Harps media that deserve to be mentioned here like Aidan McNelis. I’m looking forward to just enjoying the night and it’s good for Finn Harps to be recognised at the annual awards where you will have the likes of Stephen Kenny and Daryl Horgan from Dundalk going for the top honours” Declan said.

The other ‘Press Officer’ nominees are from League champions Dundalk and fellow Premier Division side Galway Utd.

In order to give something back to the press officers of League of Ireland clubs, the Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland (SWAI) created this award in 2006 as a token of appreciation for their efforts.

“Often taken on a voluntary basis, the press officer role is one that demands time, attention and commitment in order to represent their club and connect with any one who may need access or information that is not readily available.”

“The SWAI appreciates the work of press officers more than most considering how much we rely on them, so the association is extremely proud to present this award every year to someone who goes above and beyond their job remit.”

*The staff at Donegal Daily would like to wish our colleague and friend Declan the very best of luck on Friday evening.
