Insurance impasse is over – 2017 Donegal Rally is good to go!

AN IMPASSE over insurance that threatened to wipe out the entire 2017 motorsport season – including the Donegal International Rally – has ended, it has been confirmed.

The season had been in jeopardy due to a massive hike in insurance costs.

The crux of the issue was a 25 per cent increase on the premium and a 50 per cent hike on levies.

However, the 34 clubs under Motorsport Ireland’s watch have unanimously agreed to what was the only insurance proposal before them. Clubs had a deadline of noon today to come to an agreement.

“We are pleased to announce that all clubs have now accepted the insurance arrangements for 2017,” said MI Chief Executive Alex Sinclair.

“Thank you for your patience, support and understanding during a very difficult time.”

MI had already postponed four events in January. Time was at a premum with the Galway International Rally to take place at the beginning of February.

Confirmation of the acceptance means that the 2017 Irish Tarmac Championship season is good to go, while the news ensures that the Donegal International Rally will go ahead in June.
