A religious pastor has applied for the return of €840 in cash seized by Gardai as part of an overall investigation into Human Trafficking.
Gardai took the money from the home Nicolaie Cirpaci at 2 Fortwell House, Letterkenny in September 2015.
Mr Cirpaci claimed the money was donations from the members of his Pentecostal Church.
Mr Circaci’s solicitor, Kieran O’Gorman, applied to have the cash returned to his client when he appeared at Letterkenny District Court.
He said his client had nothing to do with Human Trafficking.
The cash, as well as two passports and an identification card, were seized by Gardai during raids across Letterkenny.
The passports, which belonged to a woman and a child, were previously returned but Garda Inspector Michael Harrison told the court that he was objecting to the cash being returned.
He said “The matter is with the DPP. This cash was taken as part of a criminal investigation.
“It is very complex investigation which involves police forces from two different EU countries. We thought we would have directions by now but it is a complex case.”
