Listen: ‘Moral victories are no good to us’ says Ollie Horgan

Ollie Horgan might, in time, reflect on the positives from tonight’s game, but in the immediate aftermath of a 3-2 defeat and a last-minute concession, the Finn Harps manager wasn’t taking delight in a ‘moral victory’.

By Chris McNulty at Tallaght Stadium

Harps came back from two down after just 14 minutes to draw level with 14 minutes to go at Tallaght – only for Simon Madden to give Shamrock Rovers a win they hardly merited.

The early strikes by David McAllister and Ronan Finn rocked Harps, but Caolan McAleer and Paddy McCourt brought Harps onto an even keel with two goals in a four-minute spell.

Madden pounced for a delightful finish to steal the win for Stephen Bradley’s Hoops.

“It’s the exact opposite of what happened last Saturday, so I don’t think we can complain,” said Horgan, whose team had beaten Sligo 2-1 last weekend thanks to Ciaran O’Connor’s late goal.

“It’s tough to take with the second half display that we had.

“We got right back in it and possibly looked like we’d go on to win it. We weren’t complaining last week when we got a late winner so we’ll take our oil now when it goes against us.

“The second half, we were very good. We pushed them high up the pitch and we looked sharp and full of energy. It’s disappointing.

“Moral victories are no good to us.”
