Kyle Callan-McFadden says he is enjoying being ‘back in proper football again’ after signing for Sligo Rovers.

The 21-year-old Ramelton man signed for Sligo in December having spent a year with Orlando City in America, after a five-year stint at Norwich City previously.

The central defender, an FA Youth Cup winner at Norwich, made the decision to come home to start afresh.

“I’m enjoying it. I’m back in proper football again. I’m getting games under my belt and really enjoying it at Sligo,” he said after playing in last night’s 1-0 win over Finn Harps in the EA Sports Cup.

“I wanted to be playing week-in, week-out.

“I see this as a bit of a launchpad for my career now to hopefully go on to bigger and better things. I think I’ve made the right decision and I’m enjoy.”

He lives now in Tubbercurry with his girlfriend, Ella Greensitt, and the couple are expecting a child in July; new beginnings on and off the pitch for the former Swilly Rovers player.

Dave Roberston was recently sacked as Sligo manager and Declan McIntyre is in interim charge at the Showgrounds.

Sligo have had a difficult start to the season and face Derry City on Saturday night.
