Listen: Christy Connaghan still hopeful of a USL upset as Rovers go to final day battle

Christy Connaghan netted Letterkenny Rovers’ first goal last night as they ensured the USL title race goes to the last day – and the Gartan man remains hopeful of another twist.

Rovers’ 4-2 win over Finn Harps Reserves takes the joust down to the final Sunday, where Rovers face Fanad and Cockhill take on Swilly.

A point will secure Cockhill the title, but if they don’t Rovers could still earn a play-off if they defeat Fanad.

“We just have to keep up our side of the deal and you don’t know what could happen in Swilly,” Connaghan said.

“Hopefully Swilly can do us a favour. Cockhill will be nervous going to Swilly. Nothing is won and they haven’t been on a good run of form. You never know.”

Rovers have recovered from what seemed the point of no return to make a serious fist of a title tile. Last night, Connaghan, David Shovlin, Conor Tourish and Kevin McGrath netted as they defeated Harps.

Connaghan said: “We’ve gone out and done the job. All the games now are finals. All we can do is do our job and keep the pressure on. Football is a funny game and you just don’t know what’ll happen. You just don’t know what could happen.”
