Horgan hails Paddy McCourt’s example: ‘We need everyone to have the same attitude ‘

written by Chris McNulty May 29, 2017

Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan has hailed Paddy McCourt’s influence since the former Celtic ace arrived in Ballybofey.

Northern Ireland international McCourt has played 14 times for Harps having been signed on the week of the new season in February.

McCourt – pictured above by Joe Boland, North West News Pix – scored his first Harps goal in a 3-2 defeat to Shamrock Rovers in March.

Although blighted by a troublesome hamstring injury, McCourt has played through the pain barrier in recent times and he was to the fore on Friday night as Harps defeated Limerick 3-2 to move up to eighth in the table.

“Paddy has been patching himself up from Friday to Friday,” Horgan said.

“He has gone and made himself available.

“His attitude, don’t mind his ability which is not in question, is second to none. We need everyone to have the same attitude as him. We’re nearly there in that regard.

“He is a good example to the younger lads. A man of his ability and with what he has done could sit back and wait weeks before he makes himself available.”

Ciaran O’Connor, Danny Morrissey and Caolan McAleer – three other new signings for this season – were on the mark on Friday.

This week, Harps travel to face Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds in the last game before the mid-season break and will be without the suspended Morrissey following his red card late in Friday’s win at Finn Park.

Horgan said: “There is a bit of quality in the side, but we’ll be down bodies again next week. We have done well away from home, bar the Cork game, but we have picked up points away from home.”
