Respite care will be restored in the Carndonagh Community Hospital on a phased basis the hospital’s liaison group has confirmed.
Although they welcomed the news, the group expressed their dismay that the suspension was put in place to begin with.
Liaison group Secretary Joe Hegarty expressed his disappointment: “This is a situation that should have never arisen in the first place, we had 3 retirees and the application was made for the replacement, and the system for recruitment and replacement got screwed up ”
“People had holidays planned, or even just a week of respite… and then to have that taken away? We want absolute assurance from John Hayes, that there are going to be no hick ups in relation to that. It’s not acceptable and we won’t accept it.”
The group is now seeking a promise from the HSE that a major refurbishment programme which is due to begin later this year will go ahead without disruption.
