Saoirse McHugh has become the latest candidate to throw their hat into the EU election ring in the Midlands North-West constituency.
The former Green Party candidate in the 2019 EU elections has returned to politics after a four-year absence.
The Mayo politician and environmental activist left the Green Party in 2020, after the party decided to join the current Fine Gael and Fianna Fail coalition Government.
In a statement announcing her independent election campaign this week, Ms McHugh said:
“I believe that we can have a better Europe, one which stands against the slaughter of civilians instead of supporting it, where issues like housing, inequality, and collapse of the natural world can be resolved instead of being dragged into culture war nonsense.”
