Probation act applied for man who stole groceries from Tesco

September 4, 2017

A District Court Judge has applied the probation act in the case of a 46-year-old Letterkenny man who pleaded guilty to the theft of €70 worth of groceries from Tesco.

Stephen Reilly, of 112 Ard O’Donnell, was apprehended by security staff at Tesco, Letterkenny, on 26 November 2016, and made a voluntary admission of the offence.

Inspector Barry Doyle told Letterkenny District Court that security staff found Reilly in possession of €69.54 worth of groceries, which he had in a bag and had left without paying for the items.

Solicitor Patsy Gallagher said his client was a separated man who had issues with alcohol.

“He is trying to deal with that and he is coming to terms with it. He had been working, but due to the recession matters fell apart,” Mr Gallagher saod.

In view of Reilly’s early plea, Judge Paul Kelly applied the probation act.
