Man pleads guilty in connection to Malin Head cannabis growhouse

December 6, 2017

A man has pleaded guilty in connection to the sale and supply of cannabis following the discovery of a cannabis grow-house at Malin Head.

Juan Fitzpatrick appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court on two charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Fitzpatrick, aged 45, pleaded guilty to the possession for sale and supply of cannabis and to the cultivation of plants without a license at Ballygorman, Malin Head on July 4th, 2016.

The court heard the value of the plants found during the Garda raid was €68,000.

Barrister for the accused, Mr Andrew Moriarty, applied to Judge John Aylmer to have a specialist witness brought from London to determine the actual value on the cannabis plants.

He pointed to the fact that the female plants are worth much more than the males.

Judge Aylmer said he would not like to send for an expensive witness and said the sex of the plants would determine the cost of the cannabis haul.

He also applied for a psychiatrist’s report on Mr Fitzpatrick, of Ballygorman, Malin Head but originally from Derry.

The case was adjourned until April, 2018.
