Council to discuss creation new path to aid Park Run with HSE

Donegal County Council will liaise with HSE officials in an attempt to create a new path in the St Conal’s Hospital grounds to aid the weekly Park Run.

The Park Run takes place each Saturday morning and has proved a popular event in the two years it has been going.

Fine Gael Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh asked a meeting of the Letterkenny Municipal District that a new path between the Old Church and the Bowling Green be created.

“The issue was brought to me by the people who organise the Park Run,” he said.

“Around 70 are turning up each week for the event. It’s a very good volunteering effort and it is bringing people in from outside Letterkenny. It is very well run and very well done.

“There is a bottleneck were the walkers are meeting the runners and they need a new path to overcome it.

“I would ask that at least the Council look at it and cost it. It would be a short, small piece of work. It’s not a big ask.”

Supporting the motion, Councillor Gerry McMonagle said: “There is a great social aspect to it. Donegal County Council should talk to the HSE about this. The Park Run is a fantastic initiative for getting people into shape.”
