An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man’s body on the outskirts of Letterkenny.

The 71-year old’s body was discovered at his home in Garryharry last night.

Suspicions had been raised after the man’s car was found abandoned earlier at Kirkstown.

The man’s body was found a short time later.

Gardai and the other emergency services rushed to the scene but the man was pronounced dead.

A full forensic examination of the scene is being carried out at present.

Gardai are now trying to determine a link between the man’s abandoned car and his sudden death a short time later.

One of the theories is that he may have suffered injuries in an accident and died at his home later.

The State Pathologist Marie Cassidy is expected to arrive at the scene tomorrow and carry out a full post-mortem.

Gardai will then decide what direction their investigation will take
