A key Consultant Psychiatrist post for Inishowen will be operational again in early April.

The news has been welcomed by local Sinn Fein Senator Padraig Mac Lochlainn.

He received confirmation at a meeting with senior HSE officials at a meeting today.

Senator Mac Lochlainn has made repeated representations to the HSE following the resignation of the previous Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Mansour last year.

He said “I welcome this important confirmation. I had received numerous representations from concerned patients and local doctors about the impact of the loss of this post.

“I want to acknowledge the efforts of the HSE’s Clinical Mental Health team in Inishowen to assist mental health patients in the peninsula this last while but it was vital to fill this post as soon as possible.

“It is so important that those in our community living with mental health difficulties get the support that they need as speedily as possible and on an ongoing basis.

“I have made repeated representations to the HSE over the last while and I welcome this good news”.
