Kevin Mc Hugh’s young Harps side were too strong for their hosts in this Group One clash of the League of Ireland Under 15 competition.

Three first-half goals in a dominant performance set them up for this impressive victory which makes it two out of two following their first day win over Monaghan-Cavan.

DERRY CITY  0  V   4 FINN HARPS.

After taking control in all areas of the pitch and going close to opening the scoring through Conor Campbell following Caoimhin Wheeler’s super through ball and Daniel Gildea’s shot in the first five minutes Harps deservedly took the lead in the 18th minute.

Campbell’s cross found Jamie McDaid near the penalty spot, he controlled the ball on his chest and drilled it low into the corner.

Charlie Collins reports from the Brandywell

It was 0-2 in the 28th minute, Gildea raced forward at pace from midfield before sliding the pass to McDaid who again converted with confidence, given keeper Kyle Burns no chance.

On the stroke of half-time Harps got a third when Gildea’s cross caused problems and in attempting to clear the ball came off a defender’s hand and Joel Gorman hammered the penalty high into the roof of Burns net.

Harps continued to dominate in the second-half and always looked the more likely to score.

They went close again on a number of occasions but managed just one more in the 59th minute when the impressive Jack Dwyer’s cross found Mc Daid in the box, he unselfishly laid it off to Gildea who applied a neat finish.

Harps are at home to Shelbourne next week.
