Dempsey McGuigan came sixth in the hammer throw at the Commonwealth Games at the weekend.

The Finn Valley AC man recorded his second best ever throw in the fifth round of the hammer final on Australia’s Gold Coast.

McGuigan reached out to an impressive 70.24m, not far off his lifetime best of 70.55m.

It’s the second CWG for the young University student at Mississippi University and he will be encouraged by the experience.

He hopes to remain in US after completion of his scholarship to coach.

Sommer Lecky, another Valley athlete involved in the Games. competes Saturday in the high jump.
